DR. SUMIT KR. ROY

Dr. Sumit Kr. Roy is a distinguished Prosthodontist, Implantologist, educator, and digital dentistry mentor known for his extensive contribution to CAD/CAM dentistry, guided implantology, and advanced prosthodontic rehabilitation in India. With a strong academic foundation and a passion for digital innovation, he has emerged as one of the prominent young mentors in the field of modern prosthodontics and digital workflow integration.

Dr. Roy completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in 2015 and subsequently pursued his Master of Dental Surgery (MDS) in Prosthodontics & Implantology in 2019. Since then, he has been actively involved in academics, clinical prosthodontics, implant rehabilitation, and digital dentistry training. He served as an Assistant Professor from 2019 to 2023 and is currently working as an Associate Professor in the Department of Prosthodontics and Implantology at Buddha Institute of Dental Sciences & Hospital (BIDSH), Patna.

Apart from his academic responsibilities, Dr. Roy serves as the Head of the Digital Dental Clinic & Laboratory at BIDSH, recognized as one of Eastern India’s largest and most advanced CAD/CAM centers. Under his supervision, the digital laboratory has been equipped with cutting-edge technologies including intraoral scanners such as Cerec PrimeScan, Medit i600, and Medit i900, along with advanced laboratory scanners and complete digital workflow systems. The center is further strengthened by high-end manufacturing units including the MCX5 Milling-Grinding Unit, Dentsply and Ivoclar furnaces, ASIGA Pro 4K 3D Printer, and Ackuretta Sol 3D Printer. His expertise extends across multiple CAD/CAM software platforms including Cerec, InLab, Exocad, Exoplan, and Blender for Dental applications such as iBAR frameworks and implant guide designing.

Dr. Roy has developed significant expertise in guided implant surgery using the Osstem Implant implant system, combining digital planning with precise surgical execution. His work focuses on integrating digital impressions, virtual treatment planning, guided implant placement, prosthetic rehabilitation, and esthetic smile designing into daily clinical practice.

In addition to digital prosthodontics and implantology, Dr. Roy is also highly experienced in Maxillofacial Prosthetics, particularly in the fabrication of silicone facial prostheses including artificial ears, noses, and other customized facial replacements for patients with congenital defects, trauma, or post-surgical deformities. He is also skilled in the fabrication of customized acrylic ocular prostheses designed to restore facial esthetics and patient confidence. In recent years, he has incorporated advanced digital workflows into maxillofacial rehabilitation by utilizing digital scanners, CAD designing, and 3D printing technologies to improve precision, comfort, esthetics, and overall treatment outcomes.

A dedicated academician and mentor, Dr. Roy has trained numerous postgraduate students and practicing clinicians through workshops, certification courses, webinars, and hands-on programs in digital dentistry and implantology. His ability to simplify complex digital workflows has made him a sought-after mentor in CAD/CAM education across India.

His academic achievements include winning the 1st Prize in Faculty Paper Presentation at the 51st Indian Prosthodontic Society (IPS) Conference held in Goa in December 2023. Professionally, he served as an Ex-Key Opinion Leader (KOL) for the Osstem Guided Implant System from 2024 to 2025 and is presently serving as a Key Opinion Leader for Dentsply Sirona In-Lab CAD/CAM systems for the term 2025–2026.

Dr. Roy has played a major role as Course Director and Mentor in several prestigious national prosthodontic conventions conducted under the banner of the Indian Prosthodontic Society. His contributions include mentoring and directing hands-on courses in Crown & Bridge using Exocad at the 25th IPS Convention in Hyderabad (2023), Guided Implantology using Exoplan at the 26th IPS Convention in Chennai (2024), Digital Dentures at the 52nd IPS Conference in Vijayawada (2024), Digital Smile Designing at the 27th IPS Convention in Gurugram (2025), and Full Mouth Rehabilitation using Exocad at the 53rd IPS Conference in Navi Mumbai (2025).

In addition to convention-based training, Dr. Roy has delivered several expert lectures and online masterclasses focusing on modern prosthodontics and digital dentistry. His sessions on Digital Impressions, Management of Endodontically Treated Teeth as Abutments, and 3D Printers in CAD/CAM have been widely appreciated among undergraduate and postgraduate dental students. He has also mentored specialized academic forums such as Prostho-Round-Up and Gurukul sessions under IPS conventions, emphasizing intraoral scanners, scan bodies, and digital workflow optimization.

Through his regular EXOCAD training webinars conducted under the “Digi-Dent League,” Dr. Roy continues to promote digital education and practical CAD/CAM learning among dental professionals. His commitment to combining education, technology, and clinical excellence has established him as an influential contributor to the advancement of digital prosthodontics, maxillofacial rehabilitation, and implant dentistry in India.
