Dr. Megha S, daughter of Mr. C K Sivan Pillai and Mrs. Ambujam Sivan, Sasthanilayam (H), Aluva, Ernakulam, is a renowned classical dancer, comparativist and yoga therapist. She is an exponent in the field of Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam and Yoga. She is the founder and Director of Poorna School of Dance and Yoga at Aluva. She is a noted disciple of famous Bharatanatya Acharya Sri P.G Janardhanan Vadanappally.
She is the first one in India who took MPhil (2008) and PhD (2015) after studying dance as a core subject from higher secondary level. She got 1st Rank in Pre Degree in Dance (2001), 2nd Rank in BA Bharatanatyam Core (2004) from Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady. She was the first batch student to secure a Master’s degree in Bharatanatyam from the same University in 2006. She has done her MPhil integrated PhD in Performing arts- Dance, from Centre for Comparative Literature, SSUS Kalady under the supervision of Prof. Dr. P.C Muraleemadhavan and she is the first PhD holder in the Centre. Megha has done her MPhil thesis in “Eco-Aesthetic Awareness in Bharatanatyam”. Her PhD entitle “The System of Charis in Mohiniyattam” in which Megha quote from more than 25 Sanskrit treatises on dance to describe the Margi-Desi styles of Charis (movements of legs) and points out those styles are reflected in various dance forms in India. She has participated in several workshops in Dance Movement Therapy. She has also secured Diploma of Yoga Instructor’s course with Yogic Counselling and P.G Diploma in Yoga Therapy.
Her husband Joby Mathew is an International Sportsperson and World Arm-wrestling Champion. They have two sons, Jyothis and Vidyut.
