Dr. Sumit Kumar

Dr. Sumit Kumar is a distinguished academic radiologist and faculty member at the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) and Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, New Delhi, where he currently serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiodiagnosis. His academic and professional journey reflects a sustained commitment to clinical excellence, radiological research, and medical education.
Dr. Kumar completed his undergraduate medical training — the MBBS degree — at UCMS and GTB Hospital, one of Delhi University’s premier medical institutions, renowned for its rigorous clinical training environment and strong tradition of producing competent clinicians. This formative experience at the same institution where he now teaches speaks to a deep-rooted connection with its ethos and patient population.
Driven by a passion for diagnostic imaging, Dr. Kumar pursued postgraduate specialisation in Radiodiagnosis at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh — one of the country’s most prestigious tertiary care and research institutions. His MD training equipped him with advanced expertise across the full breadth of diagnostic radiology, including musculoskeletal MRI, neuroradiology, hepatobiliary imaging, and uroradiology, cultivating both the technical acumen and the analytical rigour that define a specialist radiologist.
Returning to UCMS and GTB Hospital as a faculty member, Dr. Kumar has built a prolific academic record. He is the author of 17 published research papers in peer-reviewed national and international journals spanning multiple radiology subspecialties, and has presented his work on two occasions at international poster forums, bringing his research to a global audience. His scholarly output reflects breadth and depth — from original research articles and case reports to structured pictorial reviews and diagnostic accuracy studies.
As a faculty member, Dr. Kumar is actively involved in the teaching and mentorship of undergraduate medical students and MD Radiology trainees alike, guiding the next generation of radiologists in both the art and science of diagnostic imaging. His career exemplifies the ideals of academic medicine: advancing knowledge through research, translating expertise into compassionate patient care, and investing in the growth of future physicians.
