LT. DR. MOHAN CHANDRA DOLAI

Lt. Dr. Mohan Chandra Dolai (WBES) was born in 1984, in a poor and undereducated family of a small village under Nandigram police station of West Bengal, India. He is currently working as Assistant Professor in Anthropology of Haldia Government, Government of West Bengal and having more than 18 years of research and teaching experience. He is also working as Associate NCC Officer (Rank- Lieutenant) of this College (COY) under 55 Bengal BN NCC of West Bengal & Sikkim Directorate since 2016. He obtained UG degree in Anthropology from Sitananda College, Nandigram in 2005 and PG degree in same discipline from Vidyasagar University in 2007. Lt. Dr. Dolai received Ph.D. in Anthropology from Vidyasagar University (West Bengal, India) in 2015 on the issues of Institutional Care for the Elderly and their different aspects. He also received Post Graduate Diploma in ‘Gerontology and Age Management’ in 2009 from Calcutta Metropolitan Institute of Gerontology (recognized by the University of Calcutta, India) and certificate on ‘Basic Issues of Geriatric Care’ from National Institute of Social Defence (Government of India). He performed research works in various reputed institutions and organizations namely Paribesh Unnayan Parishad, Indian Statistical Institute (Kolkata), World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF-India), Cultural Research Institute (Government of West Bengal) etc. in different capacities. He employed as Field Officer of Sundarbans Programme, WWF-India (2010-2011). In 2013, he joined as Research Investigator at the Cultural Research Institute under Backward Classes Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal till 01st July, 2016. After that he joined in West Bengal Education Service (WBES) as Assistant Professor in Anthropology and stationed at Haldia Government College till date. He is the recipient of UGC Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship to pursue Ph.D. degree (2010-2011). Lt. Dr. Dolai qualified UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) of June 2012; December 2012; December 2014; June 2015 with Junior Research Fellowship. He also qualified Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2011 conducted by the West Bengal School Service Commission (Government of West Bengal). Lt. Dr. Dolai again selected as Assistant Professor in Anthropology as per the recommendation of the West Bengal College Service Commission. He has so far coordinated more than ten research projects funded by UNDP, ISI (Kolkata), WWF-India, Ministry of Tribal Affairs (Government of India), Backward Classes Welfare and Tribal Development Department (Government of West Bengal) and has also carried out fieldworks among different communities and in different regions of West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand. He published good number of scientific papers in different national and international journals (UGC Care listed, Scopus indexed) covering wide areas like: institutional care of elderly and their different aspects (functional and nutritional status, living arrangement, impact of COVID-19 etc.), tribal health and livelihood, dermatoglyphics, ethno-medicine etc. His current research interests include gerontology, tribal studies, health and nutrition, climate change and biodiversity, urban dynamics, forensic anthropology.
