Every time a patient’s record loads in seconds, a traveler’s booking goes through, or an insurance claim is processed without delay, someone has done unseen work to make sure the technology holds up. For more than 18 years, Gunjan Shegade has done that work, and along the way she has become a researcher, author, and speaker.
A Career Built on a Central Challenge
Born in Maharashtra, India, Gunjan earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai. She began as a hands-on engineer and has since become a leader in performance engineering, the discipline of making sure digital applications keep working as users, demand, and business needs grow.
Her experience spans healthcare, aviation, retail, insurance, and financial services, industries where a slow or failed system is more than an inconvenience. Her expertise covers capacity planning, application modernization, cloud technologies, microservices, artificial intelligence, and enterprise scalability.
Her career has followed the evolution of enterprise technology itself, from traditional and mainframe environments to cloud platforms, containerized microservices, and Kubernetes-based architectures. That range gives her a rare perspective on what organizations face when they modernize systems the business cannot afford to lose.
Leading Performance Engineering
Gunjan is a Performance Engineering Lead for enterprise applications for a Walt Disney client in the media and entertainment domain, where customer experience matters most. Her role includes developing AI-assisted performance strategies for complex application portfolios and validating systems under demanding workloads. She analyzes application behavior, identifies bottlenecks, and provides root cause analysis and recommendations to improve system performance. She also evaluates capacity requirements as demand grows and leads distributed teams that support mission-critical applications.
Her work increasingly brings artificial intelligence into the performance engineering lifecycle. She applies AI and Large Language Models in the areas where traditional methods struggle to keep pace with modern, distributed systems, with the goal of moving performance engineering from reacting to problems toward anticipating them.
From Practice to Research
Gunjan did not stop at solving problems inside individual organizations. She wanted to understand them more deeply, and to share what she learned.
She has authored more than 19 peer-reviewed research papers, including publications in Scopus-indexed journals. Her research connects emerging technology with everyday engineering problems. She explores how Large Language Models can support application performance analysis and how artificial intelligence can improve capacity planning. Her interests also include application latency, cloud-native technologies, and healthcare, insurance, and supply-chain systems.
She also serves the scholarly community as a peer reviewer and manuscript evaluator, assessing the technical merit of other researchers’ work and helping shape which new knowledge in engineering and technology reaches the public.
Sharing What She Knows
Gunjan believes expertise matters most when it is shared. She has taken part in keynote presentations, academic speaker series, technical sessions, and professional forums on performance engineering, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, and capacity planning. Drawing on both industry experience and research, she helps audiences connect today’s challenges with where technology is heading.
She has also put her experience into print. Her book, Enterprise Performance Engineering: A Practical Guide to Building Scalable and Reliable Applications, gathers lessons from her career on performance validation, capacity planning, application behavior, and modernization. It offers engineers and organizations a practical path to building applications people can depend on.
Recognition
Her contributions have earned a growing list of honors. She received the Distinguished Women Researcher Award at an international conference organized by Research Education Solutions in association with T. John College Autonomous, Bengaluru.
In September 2026, she received the Research Excellence & Innovation Award at the International Conference on Computer Vision for Smart Sustainable Systems (CV-S3 2026), at MAHE, Dubai Campus.
She received the International Excellence Research Award at the ISSN International Science & Technology Awards (IISTAC 2026) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, in the field of Performance Engineering and AI in Performance Engineering held on 27th Sep 2026.
Looking Ahead
Gunjan’s attention is increasingly on applying artificial intelligence to performance engineering. She works on methods that help organizations anticipate technology demand, make informed capacity decisions, and strengthen the digital services people rely on every day.
Her story reflects a simple conviction: professional experience becomes most valuable when it is turned into shared knowledge. With more than 18 years in the field, 19-plus peer-reviewed publications, a published book, and a string of international honors, Gunjan Shegade shows how practice and research can strengthen each other. Her work helps ensure that the systems modern life depends on stay fast and dependable as the world’s demands grow.
