Dr. Tarini Sonwani is an experienced Gynaecological Oncologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynaecological Oncology at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow. She holds an MBBS from Gandhi Medical College, Bhopal, an MS in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi, and DrNB-SS in Gynaecological Oncology from Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. She is ESGO Certified and holds fellowships including FICOG, FICMCH, FMAS and FICRS (Robotic Surgery), along with additional training in colposcopy, ultrasound, palliative oncology care, robotic surgery, and cosmetic gynaecology.
With more than 10 years of post-MS experience, Dr. Sonwani has worked with several prestigious institutions, including AIIMS, New Delhi, and Fortis Memorial Research Institute, Gurugram. Her professional experience includes Senior Resident in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at AIIMS, Senior Registrar and Associate Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology at Fortis, and subsequently Consultant in Gynaecological Oncology. She also served as Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences before joining KGMU as Assistant Professor of Gynaecological Oncology.
Her clinical interests encompass preventive oncology, cytoreductive surgery, minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgery, HIPEC and PIPAC, and oncofertility. She has a strong interest in advancing comprehensive cancer care for women, with emphasis on prevention, early diagnosis, evidence-based treatment and fertility preservation.
Dr. Sonwani has an active academic and research profile, with numerous publications in national and international journals and presentations at major scientific conferences. Her research includes endometrial cancer, sentinel lymph node mapping, robotic surgery, ovarian malignancies, fertility-sparing surgery, uterine sarcomas, oncofertility and rare gynaecological tumours. Her work on sentinel lymph node biopsy and robotic surgery has also received recognition through prize-winning poster presentations.
She is a member of several national and international professional societies, including the Association of Gynaecologic Oncologists of India, ESGO, ASGO, FOGSI, ISCCP and WALS.
Dr. Sonwani is committed to clinical excellence, academic teaching and research, with a particular focus on advancing minimally invasive and evidence-based gynaecological oncology care.
