
I am Dr. V. Lakshmanakumar, a dedicated Siddha physician, researcher, and academician with core expertise in forensic medicine and toxicology, and traditional food science. I obtained my BSMS degree from the Govt Siddha Medical College Chennai and MD (Siddha) degree from the National Institute of Siddha, Chennai, where I built a strong foundation in both classical Siddha literature and evidence-based clinical practice. Presently, I serve as a Medical Officer in the Department of Siddha at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Raipur. My professional journey has included roles in clinical care, teaching, and interdisciplinary research. I have also served as Associate Professor in the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at Sri Sairam Siddha Medical College & Research Centre, where I guided students and contributed to academic development also served as Assistant Registrar Siddha at the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) New Delhi, where I contributed to academic regulation and postgraduate education reforms.
I am empanelled as an AYUSH Assessor under the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH), where I help ensure quality and safety standards in AYUSH healthcare Centre’s and Hospitals. I also served as a Consultant Expert in postgraduate curriculum development under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM), contributing to the modernization and standardization of Siddha education across India. These roles reflect my commitment not only to the practice of Siddha medicine but also to its governance, quality assurance, and future direction through policy and academic reform.
My recent research work titled “Indigenous Foods of Tamil Nadu – A Narrative Review of Its Nutritive Value and Mineral Bioavailability” exemplifies my interest in exploring the scientific basis of traditional dietary knowledge. This study highlights the nutritional richness, cultural relevance, and health-promoting properties of native Tamil foods, particularly their role in improving mineral absorption and supporting preventive health strategies. In recognition of this work, I was honored with the International Research Star Award. I remain committed to advancing Siddha medicine through rigorous research, academic excellence, and the preservation of indigenous knowledge systems, while promoting their integration into modern healthcare for the benefit of public health and wellness.
