
Dr. Souvik Banik is a dedicated physician, educator, and public health professional with over 10 years of clinical and community health experience. He is currently serving as Demonstrator in the Department of Community Medicine and Deputy Superintendent at Dhubri Medical College and Hospital, Assam. His work bridges clinical medicine, academic teaching, and healthcare management, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing both institutional and community health standards.
Dr. Banik completed his MD in Community Medicine, where he achieved a remarkable State Rank 3. His postgraduate thesis, “Post-Stroke Complications and Rehabilitation in Sonitpur District of Assam – A Community-Based Observational Study,” provided critical insights into long-term stroke care and community-based rehabilitation. He also conducted a field-based study titled “Assessment of Immunization Coverage during the COVID-19 Pandemic among 12–23 Months Old Children in Sonitpur District under Bihaguri BPHC of Assam,” which examined the disruptions in routine immunization during the pandemic and proposed data-driven solutions for improving vaccination outreach.
Before joining Dhubri Medical College, Dr. Banik served at the Directorate of Medical Education, Assam, as a Senior Resident, where he contributed to academic coordination, medical training, and research initiatives across medical institutions under the Directorate. His experience there strengthened his expertise in academic governance and program implementation at the state level.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Banik spent four years at GNRC Hospital, a reputed tertiary care center in Assam, gaining valuable exposure across Super Specialty departments such as Neurology, Gastroenterology, Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine. He played an instrumental role in the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) during the pandemic, demonstrating exceptional clinical competence, leadership, and compassion during one of the most challenging periods in healthcare history.
As Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Banik oversees hospital administration, patient care quality, and operational efficiency, while also mentoring undergraduate students as part of his academic duties. His interests include epidemiology, immunization, non-communicable diseases, health system strengthening, and community-based rehabilitation.
Dr. Souvik Banik continues to contribute to Assam’s health sector through teaching, clinical service, research, and outreach activities, including organizing health camps and blood donation drives. His professional journey exemplifies commitment, empathy, and excellence in medical service.
