Dr. Shradha Gaonkar

Dr. Shradha Gaonkar : Started career in microbiology as a trainee under Dr. Savio Rodrigues, Head
of the Microbiology Department at Goa Medical College in 2011. Prior to this, I worked as a Junior
Microbiologist at Criticare Campal Clinic from July 2010 until December 2011, and continued
journey at Manipal Hospital Goa in the same role from January to December 2012. To further
enhance expertise, underwent specialized training in Bactec and Phoenix/Vitek systems at Dr.
Joshi Microbiology Laboratory Pvt. Ltd. in Mumbai. In February 2013, and established my own
practice as a Clinical Microbiologist, opening a Medical Microbiology Laboratory at Royal Hospital on
a partnership basis, which continues to operate today. Then expanded services to include
collection centers at Healthway Hospital Goa, Apollo Victor Hospital, Grace Cardiac Hospital, Borkar
Hospital, and over 20 other hospitals and laboratories around Margao. Additionally, works part-
time as a Clinical Microbiologist at Sapphire Diagnostic NABL MC/4768.
Throughout my career, received recognition for contributions to the field.
invited as a speaker at Dr. Sawant Laboratory in Kudal, Maharashtra, in 2018, and as a guest speaker
at Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences Deemed University in Karad in 2022. In 2023, Further
honored with the Young Achiever Award in Microbiology at the GAASFSL International Conference
and served as a moderator at the International Conference on Innovation in Biotechnology Research
for Sustainable Development.
Research interest in topics such as human brucellosis among cases of pyrexia of
unknown origin and occupationally exposed individuals in Goa. contributed to the scientific
community through various works, including a book chapter on uncertainty measurement in
research, abstracts on the necessity of pathogen studies and antibiograms for rational antibiotic use in
urinary tract infections, and the study of Pseudomonas species from clinical isolates. Her work also
includes research on antibiotic resistance in Klebsiella species isolated from clinical samples in a
tertiary care hospital in South Goa, and a notable case study of a zoonotic infection caused by
Streptococcus suis, reported for the first time in the Goa region. Further more research work done on Community vs. Hospital-Acquired MDR UTIs in Goa: Challenges in Pathogen Control and Treatment: A Review and also Environmental and Health Challenges of Burkholderia pseudomallei in Agricultural Regions of Goa, India.
